Wix can be part of a membership organization’s website, but it is not automatically a replacement for dedicated association management software. The right choice depends on the membership, payment, event, and reporting workflows your organization actually needs.

Start with your membership model

List who joins, who pays, whether memberships belong to people or organizations, and who should receive access. Include renewals, expired memberships, staff changes, and people belonging to more than one organization. A website login does not by itself represent all of these relationships.

Test the complete workflow

Before selecting a platform, test registration, approval, payment, renewal, cancellation, and access changes using an appropriate test environment. Verify which steps are built in, which require an app, and which need custom development. Do not assume that a member directory also provides activity history or association reporting.

Events and communication

Document how you handle member and nonmember registration, discounts, guest lists, refunds, email preferences, and attendance. Check the current capabilities and costs of the tools proposed for those tasks. Communication features are useful only when the underlying membership and consent records stay accurate.

Payments, records, and access

Identify what your team needs from invoices, receipts, reconciliation, exports, and accounting integrations. Website payments are not a substitute for verifying financial reporting requirements. Review permissions and how access changes when a membership ends; do not rely on hidden navigation to protect private content.

Compare the full cost of ownership

Include subscriptions, integrations, migration, implementation, training, ongoing maintenance, and the ability to export records. A lower website subscription does not establish that the complete membership system costs less. Test the expected volume and complexity instead of assuming a platform will scale to every organization.

Where a website project fits

Our Cen-Tex African American Chamber website is an example of a custom website build. It does not establish that every association requirement can be met by the same configuration. Define the organization’s needs before choosing its operating software.
